OVERVIEW

The Department was established in 1962 AND M.A. in 1991 Dr. Bani Banerji was the first teacher in charge of the department. Since then the strength of the students in the subject has gone beyond 600. This perhaps is the most popular course taken by students in the college. This department makes an effort to engage students to engage in understanding the current political world building an active citizens and democratic engagement. Approx. 65 candidates have successfully completed their Ph.D research from the department (1962 till 2024). The department also started an Add on course on human rights awareness in 2022 to 2023 New education Policy curriculum trains students on Research based projects, various seminar, symposium, Skill training, Guest Lectures are recurrent features of the department.
