About ELC:
Electoral Literacy Club (ELC) is an active body of Ismail Mahila PG College, Meerut (U.P.) functioning as a platform or initiative aimed at promoting electoral literacy among citizens. Electoral literacy refers to the knowledge, understanding, and skills necessary for meaningful participation in the electoral process. The primary objective of an Electoral Literacy Club is to educate citizens about the importance of voting, electoral procedures, the significance of democracy, and the responsibilities of voters.
Establishment of ELC:
The Electoral Literacy Club, Ismail National Mahila PG College, Meerut was established on 30th October 2021 under the visionary guidance of our patron, Prof. Anita Rathi, (Principal, INM PG College), this club was initiated by Prof. Shivali Agrawal and recently Dr. Ekta Chaudhary is taking care as Nodal Officer with office bearers as College Students from different segments of the society with an equal ratio among General / OBC / SC / ST / Minority / Reserved / Unreserved. Electoral Literacy Club is a platform to engage college students through interesting activities and among the general public through extension and outreach activities.
Electoral Literacy Club promotes democratic values and vigilance among students through various engaging activities, Programs and hand on experiences It helps students by providing an environment where they can learn, grow and develop altogether through the umbrella of activities like interactive session, slogan competition, essay competition, signature campaigns, speech, voter awareness camp ect. It makes the youth democratically attentive and prepare them for their future by conducting various open and in-house activities and events that benefit the students as well as the country at the large.
Vision: The goal of the electoral literacy club is to encourage young people and potential voters to participate in elections.
Objectives:
- Engage in promoting awareness of " Right to Vote" among students ,faculty members and community at large.
- To increase ethical voting, cultivate a culture of voting and adhere to the principle each vote counts and no voter is disenfranchised.
- Fostering critical thought on matters relating to voting rights, democracies and their procedures.
Innovative Programme & Initiatives taken by ELC:
Towards spreading the awareness of electoral literacy, ELC aim to empower citizens to make informed choices during elections, contribute to the strengthening of democratic institutions, and promote active civic participation through our students among the society. ELC plays a major role in building a more informed and engaged electorate, thereby contributing to the overall health of democracy through various activities such as:
* Voluntary Action
* Assisting district election administrative in conduct of poll
* Voter awarness champaigns
* Promotion of ethical voting
* Enhanching participation of the under privilaged section of society
* Disabled person
* Senior citizens
The Club also organized the “SVEEP Campaign for Voter Verification and Information”. SVEEP stands for Systematic Voter’s Education and Electoral Participation, which is a programme launched by the Election Commission of India. The main aim of the program is to inform and educate people about the importance of voting and to motivate voters.
