National Service Scheme
National Service Scheme popularly known as NSS, scheme was launched in Gandhi Centenary year, 1969 and aimed at developing student’s personalities through community service. NSS is Gandhiji's scheme to channelize the youth energy for constructive action. National Service Scheme (NSS) is a platform where students can directly interact with society. The overall objective of the National Service is educational. This objective is attained through the service to the community. Ismail National Mahila PG College, Meerut has three units and each unit has 100 volunteers as per guidelines given by Ch. Charan Singh University, Meerut. Our NSS units facilitate a space for the student to pursue real issues in our country. Students should have some obligations to the society or the nation to which they belong. It is also a process of learning when students visit a field or serve personally. So, NSS is that platform which facilitates opportunities to serve the society, and at the same time provide diverse knowledge to the volunteers. There is the great role of the youth, particularly young-educated persons to the society and nation-building. They have huge potential and enthusiasm to dedicate themselves to reform and improvement.
The real success of the learning is to apply gained knowledge, and NSS-units of the college symbolizes the same. They contribute in diverse fields, especially the upliftment of society. NSS units consisting of a group of passionate volunteers who sincerely want to work for society, especially for the needy people of the society. They have been working in the campus and outside. There are some remarkable social service activities done by the units. For instance, Swachh Bharat Campaign, Plastic Free Abhiyan, Health Checkup Camps, Slum Visit Programs, Books and Stationery distribution to the poor Students, rural health and rural development, AIDS awareness, tree plantation. Tree plantation program was one step forward to make the earth greener and sustainable. This may contribute towards not only betterment of human society but bio-diversity as well. N.S.S organizes annual camps in villages and slum areas, where problems relating to education, cleanliness and health are dealt with and awareness raised about women empowerment, nutrition and welfare schemes of the Government. Through these camps the volunteers learn civic sense and responsibility. The NSS unit works in collaboration with NGOs and other social societies.
NSS Objectives and Aims for volunteers:
- To understand the community in which they work and understand themselves in relation to their community.
- To identify the needs and problems of the community and involve themselves.
- To develop a sense of social and civic responsibility.
- To utilize their knowledge in finding a practical solution to individual and community problems.
- To develop the competence required for group living and sharing of responsibilities.
- To gain skills in mobilizing community participation.
- To acquire leadership qualities and a democratic attitude.
- To develop the capacity to meet emergencies and natural disasters and practice national integration and social harmony.
