Rangers
Rangering is the senior branch of Scouting and Guiding. In 1919, any college or university student between the ages of 16 and 25 Lord Powell, the originator of scouting, initiated rovering and rangering. As Ranger (Girl),can enrol. A unit consists of 24 Rovers (also known as Rover crew) and 24 Rangers (referred to as Ranger squad). Rangering is a disciplined activity.
The purpose of the movement is to contribute to the development of young people in achieving their full physical, intellectual, emotional, social and spiritual potentials as individuals, as responsible citizens and as members of local, national and international communities, through a variety of outdoor activities, social, and community service campaigns.
Principles:
The Rangers Movement is based on the following principles:
- Duty to God: Adherence to spiritual principles, loyalty to the religion that expresses them and acceptance of the duties resulting there from.
- Duty to Others: Loyalty to one’s country in harmony with the promotion of local, national and international peace, understanding, co-operation. Participation in the development of society with recognition and respect for the dignity of one’s fellow men and for the integrity of the natural world.
- Duty to Self: Responsibility for the development of oneself.
Objectives:
- To practice national integration.
- To develop personality through community services.
- To engage themselves in creative and constructive social work.
- To work with and among people.
- To gain leadership skills.
- To enable students to have ethical sense.
Types of Activities:
- Students participate in public awareness campaigns/drives etc.
- Various camps and lectures are attended by Rangers.
Schemes of Advancement:
- A girl of fifteen/sixteen years of age can be admitted as Ranger Aspirant.
- A Ranger Aspirant can be invested as a Ranger on completing Fifteen years three months of age.
- A Ranger Aspirant will work at least for three months to complete Pravesh Test before Investiture.
- A Pravesh Ranger will work at least for six months to qualify for Nipun Badge.
- A Nipun Ranger will work at least for nine months to qualify for Rajya Puraskar Ranger Badge.
- A Rajya Puraskar Ranger will work at least for one year to qualify for Rashtrapati Ranger Award by achieving multiple competency badges, Rover/Rangers can stay in the unit as regular student.
Outcomes:
"Service to Society" is the Movement's slogan. The purpose is to assist young people in becoming more responsible and duty-bound members of society and communities by assisting them in achieving their whole physical, intellectual, social, and spiritual goals. Rangering means various sorts of personality development training and community development training programmes including as leadership, discipline, social service, disaster management, first aid, fire fighting, civil defence, environmental conservation etc. which are provided through camps at the district, state, and national level.
